It is the heart of old Kathmandu and really is not to be missed. This place concentrates many temples, palaces and Hindu statues from the twelfth century. This neighborhood has an incredible atmosphere, almost “ out of time”.
Or also named “Monkey Temple” is an ancient religious architecture on top of a hill. Turn the traditional prayer wheels and walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction to have the real experience. The stupa has Buddha’s eyes and eyebrows painted on. This eyes observe the valley… for nearly five centuries.
Boudha Nath Stupa
One of the oldest and the biggest Buddhist monuments in Nepal and the world’s biggest stupa center of Tibetan Buddhism . This site is an UNESCO world heritage since 1979.
Also known as the temple of Lord Siva, it is the nation’s most imperative Hindu sanctuary and located along the Sacred River Bagmati. There is a famous open air cremation site near the temple where you can always see Sadhus or holy men.During a cremation the body is purified, cleaned and covered by a white cloth. The deceased is placed on the ghats (stone block next to the river) where he will be burned by the bereaved families. After 3- 4 hours of burning the cremation is complete and the ashes and remains are swept into the river, so the deceased can start the process to reincarnation. It is a memorable experience that will burn deep in your soul as you are explicitly confronted with life and death. In Nepal, the concept of reincarnation surrounds the death of a soothing idea of renewal.

I really enjoyed the tour! The guide was great, we also had a very nice driver and high quality car. The tour was nicely organized and it was a good way to get to know the city with local experts. Kathmandu is a very busy city and can be overwhelming at the beginning: joining this tour was a great way for me to discover the city! As a solo traveler, it was also a good way to meet some nice people along the trip.
